It grew rapidly in the early months of the Spanish Civil War, particularly after its leader was executed by the Republicans. Franco later merged the Falange with the Carlistas to form the Falange Española Tradicionalista de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalista. After the Civil War, the FET de las JONS was the only political party legally permitted in Franco's Spain.
